The Len Caine Memorial Prize

Len, receiving a National Merit Award from the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair in 1999

Len Caine was for many years a pivotal figure in the Trade Union movement in Eastbourne. He served as Secretary of the Eastbourne Trades Council and was an active member of the TGWU (now Unite).

He was a Labour councillor in Eastbourne for nearly 20 years, and fought both the 1974 and 1979 elections. He remained active in both the Labour and Trade Union movement until his death in 2008, aged 81. He was also on the Community Health Council and a member of the governing body at Tollgate School in Eastbourne for many years. He was made an Honorary Alderman of the Borough in 1993.

Eastbourne Trades Council salutes the service given by Len Caine to the movement locally over many years, and to honours his memory by presenting the Len Caine Award annually.
The Len Caine Award, inaugurated in 2012,  is an annual award to a local union representative, to recognise outstanding service to trade unionism in Eastbourne.

The recipient will be awarded a book prize to be presented at the AGM.
